I knew I needed to improve my invoicing process when I began spending more time designing and writing invoices than on billable work.

Before I found Billings, I was using iWork. It was a good start, but I couldn't keep my clients organized within the applications. For each client, I would create a folder and save each invoice and estimate in that folder. It became quite complicated to keep track of invoice and estimate numbers within the Finder and prepare for tax season.

One thing that I really liked about Billings was its simplicity. I needed an application that could create professional, tasteful invoices, but also an application that wouldn't stand in the way of my work. I had previously created branded invoices in iWork and wanted to use the design for future invoices. With Billings' design tools, I was able import my designs as PDF backgrounds and use an existing invoice template that shipped with Billings. Another feature that drew me to Billings was the ability to organize clients into groups. This is important because I offer several services from wedding and event videography, to corporate training materials and consulting for businesses that want to use new media. With Billings, I can easily organize my clients into each of these categories.

Billings allows me to quickly create and send invoices, and view reports about my freelance business. With the iPhone app, I'm now able to view accounts directly on my iPhone without having to be at my desk.

It's simple. As a part-time freelancer, my time is very limited; therefore, the more time I spend creating invoices and trying to collect money means less time to make money.
