I recently returned to an Apple-powered law office (after spending 13 years suffering in a Windows environment). With the switch, I was forced to ditch the timekeeping/billing software that I had been using for years, since it wasn't Mac compatible. [Note: I didn't really like the software, but I paid *a lot* for it and kept hoping it would finally 'click.' It never did. What should have been simple processes took too much time and my billing needs weren't being met.] Frankly, I was overjoyed at the prospect of finding a Mac-compatible, functional, intuitive and elegant solution for my billing process. I knew the Mac OS would inspire software options that were a better fit for my practice. I was introduced to Billings even before I bought my new Macs – by the business manager at the local Apple store.
The software I used previously was bloated with functionalities that I simply didn't need. Unfortunately, to accomplish even the simplest of tasks, one was forced to deal with multiple unnecessary functionalities. And those functionalities that I really did need... well, they never did quite work as expected. My billing needs vary, but I have two primary 'structures.' I needed a system that would permit me to create a process for each structure and accomplish billing in an efficient and streamlined manner.
Billings was the first invoicing software for Mac that I test-drove after installing my new Apple system. While I did test-drive a few others, including some that had more bells and whistles (I'm an attorney – I am programmed to consider multiple options), I kept coming back to Billings. The user interface just makes sense. I can do what I need to do, but I don't have to deal with functionalities that I don't need (unless I need them). I can create beautiful invoices that seamlessly communicate my firm's brand. Ease of use, intuitive features and aesthetic value are of utmost importance to me, and Billings has them all. And, finally, the incredibly reasonable price of the software really made it a no-brainer. Putting it simply – for my needs, it just works.
Billings definitely has streamlined my invoicing process. The software makes it easy to create blueprints for repetitive tasks. It makes it easy to spend time entering only the information relevant to my time-keeping and billing system. Invoice creation is instantaneous. I can easily track retainer deposits. In combination, all of these features have significantly reduced the amount of time I spend both keeping time records and invoicing clients. Time *is* money in my world. As one of two attorneys in a small firm, I'm very 'hands on.' I don't delegate time entry and billing to my assistant, so making my billing process more efficient with Billings has directly improved my productivity.
See above. In sum: after customizing my workflow in Billings (which was easy to do), I spend much less time dealing with invoicing. Which means I can spend more time doing actual *work* for my clients. As well, the fact that I can send beautiful, branded invoices via email so easily with Billings (versus printing/mailing hard copies) saves even more time and money.
