Macworld | iWorld 2012 Recap

January 31, 2012 on 10:30 am | Amin

Seven Macworlds. Sounds like a lot right? I thought so too until I talked to some real veterans of the show. A few people that I encountered had been attending Macworld for 20+ years. So, even though I’m not holding or breaking any records with my measly seven attendances, I’m still proud to have rep’d Marketcircle for this many years.

We had plenty of visitors to our tiny little booth, affectionally referred to as ‘lemonade stands’ or ‘phone booths’. This is the only show that we do that is attended by only Mac and iOS users. It’s so great to interact with customers face to face after sometimes years of relationships based solely on email & phone exchanges. I hope that every Marketcircle employee can experience this one day to see what great people are out there using our software. I somehow feel guilty to be the one that always gets to go, but knowing how much I love California, (my hometown is beautiful SF) I don’t think the higher ups dare to bench me.

Speaking of hometowns, I experienced one of the best ‘firsts’ of my life on Sunday January 22nd at 3:00pm Pacific.

49ers playoff game

Aly and I scored tickets (thanks to Abbi of FastMac) to the 49ers–Giants game. I was finally able to attend a Niners game in the legendary Candlestick Park where the best quarterback in the history of the game (my opinion and I’m sticking to it) Joe Montana himself played the game.  To say the experience was memorable would be the understatement of the year.

And much like Candlestick, Macworld is home to the giants of the Mac industry. You cannot substitute meeting and interacting with some of the best developers from all over the world. Having us all in one OS X zone allowed us to refer traffic to each other and feed of each other’s energy. It was great way to spend time with our fellow Mac and iOS developers.

I’m very much looking forward to continuing the tradition of traveling to San Francisco each year to participate in this event.

London International Technology Show Recap

October 27, 2011 on 5:23 pm | Ryan

We just got back from our first trade-show in the UK and wanted to take a minute to share how it went.

Marketcircle sponsored the MacUser Awards Show which took place last Thursday, and were proud to have been nominated for Business Software of the Year. Although we didn’t win, we still ended up as a 2011 MacUser Awards Finalist.

Here are a few pics from the event:

Us after finding out we didn’t win :(

For the following 3 days we had a booth at the London International Technology Show – a show featuring exhibitors in several different industries, with Mac being one of them.

Since the show was a mix of Mac and PC vendors, we were able to talk to quite a few people that were considering switching their PC-based businesses over to Mac. The iPhone and iPad were often mentioned as the precursors that sparked their interest.

The show also featured a “Mac Museum”, showcasing some of Apple’s iconic hardware achievements during the past 35 years. It was interesting but at the same time bittersweet, with the recent passing of Steve Jobs.

We had some help at the booth from local partners, including Bill Verkaik from JG Consulting, and Amal Douglas from DMC Consultancy. Just want to take a second to extend our thanks once again – thank you!

To end this off I’ll share a few photos from the show floor:

And finally, an offtopic photo – a Veyron in the London Bugatti Dealership (I’m a car nut).

…luckily there was a racing simulator at the show to keep me at bay ;)

Marketcircle CEO to speak at The Çingleton Symposium

October 12, 2011 on 2:28 pm | Ryan

Marketcircle CEO Alykhan Jetha (AJ), along with several other big names in the industry will be speaking at The Çingleton Symposium this weekend in Montréal, Québec.

About Çingleton

We are at an inflection point in the way people approach personal computing. iOS has clearly been indicative of the way forward for a few years now and Lion serves to cement this trend. Looking at the broader industry we see a trend away from the traditional forms of thinking about our personal devices. Windows Phone, Android, RIM and WebOS are all also clearly moving our industry in a direction beyond files & file systems, applications that are considered «running» or not, and are abandoning the metaphors that originated with the Mac in ’84 in favour of a new approach guided by both iOS and the Web. In addition to the technical changes the way we deliver software and our relationship with our customers is being changed by the App Stores.

As a community that has found itself riding the crest of this wave of change we have much to learn from one another. Çingleton aims to provide a forum for us to gather our thoughts on the opportunities and pitfalls ahead of us. Our goals are twofold – an opportunity to discuss, face to face, the issues we have to deal with as a result of this sea change, and second, an opportunity to cement our ties as a community through topical discussion but also through sharing our other, non-technical interests, and how they relate to how we approach our work.

Our desired outcome is that attendees leave with a broader perspective of the issues at hand, a few ideas as to how to best approach the future, and a respect, appreciation and familiarity for other members of our community. Many conferences aim to teach, Çingleton aims to be about learning from each other.

The show isn’t strictly limited to Apple products – there are also other “zones” that focus on photography, mobile computing, gaming, 3D technology, and more.

There’s even a booth called “Top Gear Test Track” – we don’t know what to expect but we’re excited!

MCPC 2011 Recap

October 11, 2011 on 3:46 pm | Ryan

Last week we held our third annual Marketcircle Partner Conference, and I’m pleased to say it went very well!

This year we decided to change up the venue from the usual Niagara Falls to Downtown Toronto. It was a nice change of scenery, and a great chance for the out-of-towner’s to see something new.

The setting allowed for great food, shopping, and sightseeing.

A couple of our brave partners, along with Nelly from Marketcircle, completed the CN Tower EdgeWalk (pic below)!

We had Partners from all across the globe, including Canada, United States, Germany, United Kingdom, Australia, and France.

Both our staff and Partners seemed to agree that it was our best conference yet!

Every year we honour a few Partners that have gone above and beyond. We hand out awards to those that have achieved a high level of success, for a few different categories.

Here are this year’s winners:

Top Producer: iOSXpert – Alf Ruppert, Germany

The Top Producer award goes to the Partner who has generated the most customer growth both for themselves and for Marketcircle in a region. iOSXpert has won this award for thee years in a row!

Best Website: GlobalMac Consulting – Tom Lambotte OH, USA

A website that is easy to navigate, easy to find contact info, good use of testimonials, nice standard footer on all pages, good blog, social media links have been included but are not overdone, good implementation of hover states.

Most Daylite Implementations: Blacktip IT – Matthew Bookspan FL, USA

Most Daylite implementations reported to Marketcircle since last MCPC.

Most Billings Pro Implementations: Blacktip IT – Matthew Bookspan FL, USA

Most Billings Pro implementations reported to Marketcircle since last MCPC.

“Link” Award: Orion iIT – Jeff Haynor NY, USA

An award to acknowledge an ability to forge new relationships (specifically with Apple in this case) that benefit both the Partner, the client, and Marketcircle.

Award of Excellence: Puremac – Adrian Treahy Sydney, Australia

An award to acknowledge overall excellence in every aspect of Partnership; quality customer implementations, building of key relationships, assisting fellow Partners, positively influencing the community of Marketcircle customers as a whole, etc.

On behalf of Marketcircle I’d like to extend a big thanks to everyone for coming in – especially those flying in to see us (we all know how fun airports are).

We’re already looking forward to our next conference.

Without further ado, here are some photos:
