Recap: Marketcircle at the ABA TECHSHOW

April 16, 2013 on 3:28 pm | lbenetton

We’ve been faithfully attending the ABA TECHSHOW year after year to cater to numerous lawyers who “think different” when it comes to technology. The number of Mac-using lawyers continues to grow, and the ABA has formally recognized that growth by organizing a “Mac Track” where lawyers can learn more about their favorite platform – or their soon-to-be favorite platform!

This year, everybody who visited us at the recently ended (and REALLY BUSY) TechShow in Chicago sported an iPad, an iPhone, or both, and they use their iOS devices in their practices.

This year we were pleased to include Docmoto by CHL software at our booth. Together, Marketcircle and CHL provide solo and small/medium firms with the core software they need to run their firms using Macs, iPhones and iPads:

  • practice management with Daylite
  • time-billing and invoicing with Billings Pro
  • document management with Docmoto

We were also happy to get mentions from Victor Medina, Mark Metzger, Randy Juip, and Ben Stevens during their Mac-specific sessions. These leaders/influencers in the Mac-using law community have been instrumental in bringing more and more lawyers to Apple’s platforms.

We had a great time in Chicago, and we’re looking forward to next year’s TechShow. If you’re going, remember to stop by and visit us!

2012 ABA TECHSHOW Recap

April 3, 2012 on 3:43 pm | Amin Rahmani

amin and rahim marketcircle chicago

The main theme of the show centered around the paradigm shift towards cloud services.

There were those for, those against, and those on the fence. Personally I’m for because wether you like it or not it is here and eventually we will all be using it. I figure people just want to be able to trust their technology and always have access to their data, but for those who think this ask yourself, “Am I as trustworthy as the cloud?”. For example some of the people singing the tune of security (or lack thereof) in the cloud are the same folks that have auto-login when their computer OS starts up, no backup strategy or an inadequate one, or no passcode on their phone (uh yes there’s critical data their too). How many times have you thought “where’s my phone?! oh there it is, phew!”

That’s all I’m going to say about this topic because speakers Victor Medina and Ben Schorr (and probably others) did a great job of going over the dos and don’ts of managing sensitive data on your devices. We really enjoyed Randy JuipMark Metzger’s session on “The Fine Art of Getting Paid on a Mac, and special shoutout goes to Brett Burney for his time and dedication in organizing another fantastic ‘Mac Track’.

It was wonderful to once again be a part of the technology movement that is spreading like wildfire across this industry. Next year we anticipate even more Mac & iOS focused content than ever, and we will be right there to help lead the way into this wonderful platform for business.

May the Mac be with you, always!

2012 CLE Legal Super Summit – Managing Your Practice on a Mac

March 16, 2012 on 12:09 pm | Ryan

Tom Lambotte of GlobalMac Consulting will be giving a talk at the 2012 CLE Legal Super Summit aimed at attorneys looking to manage their practice on Macs.

Tom will be highlighting Daylite but will be talking about other useful workflows for law firms running in a Mac environment.

Tom will be speaking on April 25th from 1:30pm-4:00pm.

A bit about the conference:

Corporate College, a division of Cuyahoga Community College, is proud to host the first Northeast Ohio regional summit for legal professionals, specifically around CLE credits and advances in technology.

Invitations are being sent to attorneys, legal marketers, information technology directors and other legal professionals throughout Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Attendance is expected to exceed 300 guests.

You can learn more about the event by visiting the CLE Super Summit website.

A bit about Tom’s experience in the legal industry:

Four years ago, Tom Lambotte saw the need for an Apple Consultant to specialize in the legal field. Since then, his company, GlobalMac IT Consulting, has worked with solo attorneys and small law firms in close to 20 states, providing comprehensive consulting; everything from full PC to Mac conversions, to Daylite implementation and training, to Managed Services, which allows law firms to fully outsource their IT and focus on running their practice.

Tom is one of the top ten Daylite Master Partners, co-founded the DayliteLawOffice Google group, and is an active contributor to the Macs-In-Law-Office community.

Tom lives in Hudson, OH with his wife, daughter, and two English Bulldogs.

Come see Marketcircle at the 2012 ABA TECHSHOW

February 23, 2012 on 2:36 pm | Amin Rahmani

This year marks the third time Marketcircle will participate at the ABA TECHSHOW (American Bar Association Tech Show) this March in the beautiful city of Chicago.

aba techshow 2012

A number years ago Brett Burney, a respected technology consultant and attorney in the Mac using law community, encouraged us to attend with the disclaimer that this wasn’t a ‘Mac focused’ show. Basically he encouraged us to attend but didn’t want to set expectations too high that anyone would be interested in us at such a PC focused show. I’m glad that Brett encouraged us to go because the first year we were the only exclusively Mac/iOS developer there which made us feel… rather special. At that time there was only one Mac ‘track’ scheduled in the sessions.

Mac computers were few and far between at the show and people who noticed our gleaming Mac computers came to our booth thinking we were there representing Apple. I remember one year I had just received my new MacBook Air and everyone would come over just to touch it, lift it, bounce it around and ask how much I like it. I would tell them “it’s the best computing experience I’ve ever had” and that hasn’t changed.

The following year at ABA almost every single booth had a Mac on their tables and if I’m not mistaken there were 4 Mac ‘tracks’. This year I believe there will be even more.

Between ABA and MILOfest (a great little event that takes place once a year down in Florida run by Victor Medina), we’ve been able to create a relationship with the vibrant community of attorneys now using Macs to run their law offices. Actually while we’re on this tangent, I should mention that our relationship first began in February 2008 when we were invited by Kern Lewis to present Daylite at a conference in Fort Worth Texas called ‘Using Macs in Trial’. This is where I first discovered the camaraderie in the Mac using law community. I was also charmed by the welcoming atmosphere that everyone created.

Ever since these past events, attorneys on the Mac have given Daylite a chance to fill the void in the Mac space for a good practice management application. Many have chosen Daylite over PC competitors & cloud competitors due to the level of customization Daylite can provide, in addition to the native applications for both Macs and iOS devices. While we never previously advertised Daylite as a solution for the law office, we now can see that indeed it fulfills many of the needs.

We invite you to visit us at this year’s ABA TechShow. For a complimentary show pass, please visit this link.

Marketcircle will be exhibiting at booth # 912.

Macworld | iWorld 2012 Recap

January 31, 2012 on 10:30 am | Amin Rahmani

Seven Macworlds. Sounds like a lot right? I thought so too until I talked to some real veterans of the show. A few people that I encountered had been attending Macworld for 20+ years. So, even though I’m not holding or breaking any records with my measly seven attendances, I’m still proud to have rep’d Marketcircle for this many years.

We had plenty of visitors to our tiny little booth, affectionally referred to as ‘lemonade stands’ or ‘phone booths’. This is the only show that we do that is attended by only Mac and iOS users. It’s so great to interact with customers face to face after sometimes years of relationships based solely on email & phone exchanges. I hope that every Marketcircle employee can experience this one day to see what great people are out there using our software. I somehow feel guilty to be the one that always gets to go, but knowing how much I love California, (my hometown is beautiful SF) I don’t think the higher ups dare to bench me.

Speaking of hometowns, I experienced one of the best ‘firsts’ of my life on Sunday January 22nd at 3:00pm Pacific.

49ers playoff game

Aly and I scored tickets (thanks to Abbi of FastMac) to the 49ers–Giants game. I was finally able to attend a Niners game in the legendary Candlestick Park where the best quarterback in the history of the game (my opinion and I’m sticking to it) Joe Montana himself played the game.  To say the experience was memorable would be the understatement of the year.

And much like Candlestick, Macworld is home to the giants of the Mac industry. You cannot substitute meeting and interacting with some of the best developers from all over the world. Having us all in one OS X zone allowed us to refer traffic to each other and feed of each other’s energy. It was great way to spend time with our fellow Mac and iOS developers.

I’m very much looking forward to continuing the tradition of traveling to San Francisco each year to participate in this event.
