November 12, 2009 on 11:35 pm | Ryan

Daylite Touch 1.2 is now available for download in the App Store.

We added new features, made performance improvements, and fixed minor bugs.

In Daylite Touch 1.2, you can now:

  • Tap on web links, email addresses, and phone numbers when reading notes.
  • See your contacts’ birthdays and anniversaries on your calendar. (Adjustable in Settings)
  • Cancel a sync using a clearer sync interface.

You can check out the release notes for more information.

Sorry to bother you again with that, but what about Billings Touch ?

Where are the informations you promised “in a month” in August ?

    Thank you,

    Regards,

Thanks for this update, the bug fixes and tweaks are very welcome.

However, is there an option to turn off the progress bezel? The app syncs a lot, and this constantly gets in my way when I’m using the app, especially when I’m at meetings and on a slow EDGE connection.

I much preferred the background style sync, with a small notification icon in the top right if you needed it (perhaps you could use this as a cancel button when sync is in progress instead).

I’m sure I’m not the only one finding this an issue.

  3. motech says:

    wait a minute,
you made the sync progress gui worse?
    you are kidding right?

so now instead of just a spinny circle on the home screen, you put the spinny circle in its own floaty bezel? you didnt even give us a progress bar?

why is this worse then before?
because it tells us the same amount of information,
but now as it updates, i am locked out of daylite. and it updates every single time you open the app – so now i have to wait 30 seconds everytime i wanna get in the app. even if its just to look up a phone number or write a note. .

    fantastic !!

the data detectors were a long time coming and i am very very happy about that.
but please please change the progress “bezel” to something thats more integrated on the top of the screen that shows a progress bar, that you see from any screen you are in while in daylite, and it lets you continue using the app as it updates.

yes yes i know i can cancel it at any time,
but i still do want it updating everytime i open,
just not in such an in your face way.

  4. motech says:

ps – thanks for the hard work . . .

  5. CJ says:

I agree, the new sync experience is a major step backward.

  6. Michael Lubitz says:

Daylite Touch and Daylite Feature Request Improvement

    1) In Daylite Touch while I can sort opportunities by value I cannot edit the values within the opportunity. I cannot change the monetary amount and have to go to my desktop.

    2) In both Daylite Touch and Daylite I cannot link multiple employees to opportunities. I would like fellow ees to be aware of opportunities can you suggest a fix besides linking them so they are aware as this is currently not possible.

  7. Oliver says:

Well, the new sync GUI is painfull at best … design follows function not vice versa

  8. AJ says:

@olivier, We’ve been posting updates on the forums. We’ve been in beta for a few weeks now (you can see the activity of the private beta on the forums summary page)

  9. AJ says:

@motech You can get to that phone number much faster now. Before, when we synched, the app would block and stutter as you navigated the app. Now you can cancel right away to get to that phone number (or other piece of data) by hitting the cancel button.
At first, I had a similar reaction, but as I used it more, it became evident that this is better.

  10. Andrew Robulack says:

I’m wondering about a Billings for iPhone update too — or should I just buy something else for my iPhone. I’ve heard that some will export data that can be imported into Billings on my Mac.

  11. olivier says:

Thank you for pointing that out, I didn’t monitor the forum.

Nevertheless, “Discussion about Billings Touch Beta – Starts in August. INVITATION ONLY & CONFIDENTIAL.” don’t give a lot of informations about something that should have been released “early 2009″…

I keep looking because I like Billings and don’t want to change, but I’m a little disappointed on this one.

  12. AJ says:

@olivier We changed our target date (once only) for Billings Touch to “second half of 2009″ a while back. We are looking good for the revised date range. Changing an app that was not designed to sync to one that does took longer than we expected, but we’ve overcome the major hurdles and we are progressing fine now. With Daylite Touch, we had a little bit of an edge because of the offline sync functionality that Daylite has had for many years — Daylite was designed to sync while Billings was not.

@Andrew We’ll be there soon. Hang on just a bit longer.

  13. AJ says:

@olivier I forgot to mention that even though the forum is private, you can see the last activity date … meaning we are active on it. The beta is limited because we only have 100 iPhone provision slots for 2 major apps. Our own devices take up close to 48 of those slots.

  14. olivier says:

@AJ > Thank you for this complement of information ! It’ll help me to be more patient :)

Oh, and I know and understand the constraint of the ad-hoc mode.

  15. Tom says:

    HI
I agree with other people update at the start it is not a great idea as it is now. It blocks you from using app especially when you are in the area with slow internet connection.
I am missing a very important update on daylite touch, when will you make possible to set remainders from daylite touch?
It works from Daylite on my mac so what is the problem?

Birthdays – I have tons of birthdays in my address book on my mac but as I don’t usually check iCal I do miss people birthdays (shame). Is there a way for daylite and daylite touch to scan and import this?

Sync with Address Book. – can you please activate both ways sync with address book?

Accepting meetings from Mail, – can you please add a way when someone send you an email with ical invitation it will appear in Daylite?

  16. Ralf says:

    Hi,

thanks for the upgrade BUT I am still missing forms! having forms on my iPhone would be such a big step forward for us.

Will it be coming one day?

    Regards

    Ralf

  17. motech says:

i still think that the progress window is a step backwards. you could have done it much less intrusive.

and why not add a progress meter of some sort?
    % or a bar ?

  18. Lorenzo says:

    Hello AJ,

any plans of a version of Billings that syncs on a database of its own or on Daylite’s one?

I really feel that depending on Apple’s Address Book is not proper, which is the only thing that kept me from buying it after the trial.

Any plans to release Daylite 4 with a new GUI?

    Thanks,

    L.

  19. Alpesh says:

AJ please, please, please think about developing for Andriod. The only thing keeping me from moving over to Driod from the iphone is Daylite. However, I am only giving iPhone one final chance June 2010 to see what their answer to the Driod is. After that, I will sell off my Daylite everything and switch because I have had it with iPhone emphasizing games, music and movies over business.

Read this article and you’ll see what I mean.

  20. Bryan Carter says:

Am I missing something, or is it less than two weeks away from being 2010 and still no Billings Touch for the iPhone? Maybe I missed some major press release…

  21. AJ says:

We submitted it for approval a couple of days ago. We’ll make more noise about it soon.

  22. AJ says:

We are observing Android carefully. At this point, I’m not convinced it is worth the investment – namely because of the inevitable fragmentation that happens with open source (it is just part of human nature and the need for each manufacturer to differentiate themselves).
Now with Google in the hardware fray, it is going to get even more messy. Hopefully I’m wrong, but past history doesn’t bode well for this (look at any open source project).

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – the iPhone is the best *small business* phone out there (even with Android and the Pre in the mix now).

  23. Turk182 says:

Hi. I’d highly recommend you consider moving towards the android platform as well as the iphone because Android is setting a base of APIs to enable standardization among the different implementations of the android platform. This should enable daylite across a broad set of Android devices. Your platform is far better than the Google integrated services.

  24. John Giordani says:

Would be great if in Daylite Touch > Contacts user had the option to sort or filter by Category!!!

    Thanks.

  25. Andrew Michael says:

I am a Billings and Daylite user would pay for an Android App…
My work would be much more efficient…Please Please Please :-(

  26. Andy says:

With Android now taking 2nd place behind RIM, ousting iPhone to 3rd place, surely it makes sense now to deliver on the Android platform?

I love Daylite and am stuck with the iPhone until you release on Android.

    Please consider.

    Thanks

  27. Josuah says:

Not all Daylite users want to be forced to use an iphone to be able to use daylite on the road. There has to be an alternative!

    Android is gaining ground.

  28. Nathan Keene says:

Alpesh, Turk182, Andrew, Andy and Josuah: Agreed!

With Apple’s typically dismissive, self-congratulatory attitude toward its release of a glaringly defective piece of hardware and ATT’s seemingly worse-by-the-day network, the bloom has never been more off the iPhone rose from a user standpoint, however dearly developers may love the OS.

Daylite Touch is literally the sole reason I haven’t switched to another carrier and phone, but even that won’t keep me around much longer. I ported all my data into Daylite, and as fun as it wasn’t, I’ll port it back out if I have to; after all, the rest of the business community does seem to manage without Daylite. I’d rather just see MarketCircle develop something I can use it with on a more reliable network and device.
