Google unveiled its G1 on September 23rd, powered by its open-source Android technology. Is it a match for the iPhone and what does this new entry mean in the war of the smartphones? BNN discusses this announcement with our CEO, Alykhan Jetha.

    Excellent Interview. I think you hit on the most relevant points, in a thoughtful way.

    @Ralph – Thanks. There are even more issues with the Android’s multi-vendor approach, but I didn’t have the time to cover them. For example the G1 can’t do multi-touch but the Android API allows it. As a software developer, how am I supposed to work around issues like that? – The only way is to code to the lowest common denominator — which, in the end, means not much innovation going to happen there.

    I have had the iPhone 3g and iPhone 3gs, and I now have a Gallaxy S. So far its been ok, I like that fact that the phone isnt locked down like the iphone is. The only issue are the games. This needs improving if Android wants to really compete with Apple.
