I find the comparison to Sage’s Act quite humorous. Act is a very comprehensive CRM product, one in which ALL filters work, even NEGATIVE filters. Also, Act allows hundreds of “Extra FIelds,” and guess what, those fields actually allow drop-down choices for standardized entry, a feature that any crm product worth its salt has.

In Daylite you have an unlimited number of forms, each with a dozens of fields and each field can have a drop drop if desired.
We also have negative filters (they where a bit flaky prior to 3.10). The issue is likely the way you are composing those filters. Boolean logic with negatives is not the most intuitive thing.

Also, we never designed Daylite as a replacement for ACT (nor do we claim so). We designed Daylite to help small businesses grow and part of that mission coincides with what ACT does (every business needs to bring in new opportunities).
