As a followup to Editor’s Choice Award post I thought I’d include the actual review of Billings 3 in MacUser’s print magazine.

You can view a PDF of the review if you don’t have the superhuman vision required to read it in the size below. Apologies for the slight blurriness with the scanned copy.

My Experience with Billings 3

April 21, 2011 on 4:27 pm | Ryan

A great review of Billings 3 by Chris Honniball of Media Lab Creative.

When I stumbled upon Marketcircle’s little gem of an application I was searching for an invoicing system that:

  • Didn’t require me to pay a monthly membership.
  • Wasn’t a web application.
  • Had a custom invoice design option.
  • Was easy to use.
  • Looked like it was a Mac App.
  • Billings fit the bill.

After two days, 6 hours of experimenting, one estimate, and one timed project; I’ve come to the conclusion that Billings 3 is some pretty impressive software. Though it still has it’s pitfalls, it is an extremely useful application I would recommend to any freelancer.

As a reminder, we offer a plugin (download link) that integrates Daylite with Fujitsu ScanSnap scanners.

Scanned documents can be stored as chronological history under the relevant object in Daylite, making it fast and easy to access them when needed. ScanSnap integration allows you to quickly scan documents and bring them into your Mac, letting you easily link them to projects, contacts, sales opportunities, and more.

Congrats again Lauren, and thanks to everyone who came by our booth!

Billings Pro 1.1 adds support for QuickBooks & MoneyWorks

April 4, 2011 on 10:55 am | Ryan

Today we’re shipping an important update to Billings Pro – version 1.1.

Billings Pro 1.1 adds an export to QuickBooks feature, MoneyWorks integration, and some general speed and usability enhancements. You must upgrade both the server and the app.

Export to QuickBooks

You can now export Clients, Invoices, Payments and Retainers to an IIF file and then import that IIF file into QuickBooks. You can also import the chart of accounts and client names from an IIF file.

MoneyWorks Integration

Billings Pro now integrates with MoneyWorks 6.0.5 (Express, Gold and Data Center). Billings Pro connects to the running MoneyWorks database to exchange data. There is no manual file transfer. You can send over Clients, Invoices, Payments and Retainers. Payments received in MoneyWorks for an invoice created in Billings Pro are pulled into Billings Pro, and the totals are updated. You can also import Clients from MoneyWorks.

What else is new?

Faster Invoice, Estimate and Statements Generation

We’ve sped up the process of creating these documents significantly. This is especially apparent on slow networks or on distant networks. The process is the same but the speed has improved considerably.

Directly add Clients in Billings Pro

You can now add clients directly in Billings Pro – you don’t have to import them from Address Book or Daylite. Billings Pro no longer requires the client to be in Address Book before sending an invoice.

Fore more details about everything new in Billings Pro 1.1, please read this Knowledge Base article.

UPGRADE PROCEDURE:

Please follow the steps outlined in this article in order to ensure you update Billings Pro correctly.

Both the application (Billings Pro), and the server (Billings Pro Server) must be upgraded to 1.1.

Upgrade Billings Pro Server first, then upgrade all copies of Billings Pro on all computers.

Together we can help Japan

March 17, 2011 on 1:50 pm | AJ

Although Japan is a wealthy country, the sheer magnitude of the damage and destruction implores us to help our Japanese friends as best as we can.

For Haiti, us along with a bunch of other generous developers donated money with the Indie+Relief initiative.

It doesn’t seem that there is such an effort going this time, so we’ve put something together ourselves.

From Monday 00:00 until Wednesday 23:59 EST next week (March 21st – 23rd) we’ll be donating all proceeds from Billings 3 and Billings Touch to the Red Cross Japanese relief effort.

You can purchase Billings 3 from us or from the Mac App Store. Billings Touch can be purchased from the iOS App Store via an in-app purchase.

If you’re on the fence about buying Billings, now is a good time to make a decision.

Check out this page we put together for more details.

Together we can make a difference.

Thanks,

AJ and the Marketcircle Team.
