Daylite
Manage your business and your team.
I help organizations, and more importantly the people in them, get their heads around the web and how to make the most effective use of it - both inside and outside the firewall.
I use Daylite to run my business. I am a freelance consultant helping people in business understand, and make better use of, the web. I use Daylite to keep track of my contacts, manage my GTD tasks, establish and track my goals, and basically manage most of my life.
I have been a fan of David Allen's Getting Things Done methodology since the book was first published nearly ten years ago. I realised that, while I had been using GTD applications for some time, they didn't really accommodate the fact that most of my tasks were people related. Daylite offers so many ways of integrating GTD with keeping track of the people I am working with and for.
I have been able to establish a number of systems, repeated sequences of tasks, that make it much less stressful for me to carry out the day to day tasks of running a business. One of the challenges of being a freelancer and working from home is establishing enough structure and I now have in Daylite both a structure and a methodology that means I can be confident that I have done what I need to to do when I need to have done it. The addition of Daylite Touch has meant that I can carry this structure with me all of the time no matter where I am working.
Given the people focussed nature of my work the main feature I benefit from is contact management. Being easily able to keep track of who I have spoken to, when, and about what is a real life saver. I have even been known to surreptitiously check my notes from previous conversations on Daylite Touch while talking to the person!
Being able to develop my systems and track contact with clients and prospects has meant that I am much more likely to follow up on leads at the right time in the right way. Doing this consistently has grown my client base and made it much more likely that I will pick up repeat work.
I now find it hard to imagine running my business without Daylite and still look forward to using it every day. It is a good sign if a business tool is pleasure to use and this is true of Daylite even after nearly five years of continuous use.
