You can designate a hot key to bring up the DayLite 'Find' panel or even create a New Task in any application by doing the following.
From the DayLite menu bar and select:

-DayLite -> Preferences -> Hot Keys
-Place a check in the 'Use Hot Keys' box
-Click on the 'Change' prompt besides either 'Show Find Panel' or 'Create New Task'
-Press and hold down the combination of keys. Please note that the first key should be one of the following:
[apple], [shift], [control] or [option]
- When you have selected the designated buttons, the symbols will appear in the Shortcut window. If you are not happy with your choice, you can always start again by clicking on the erase button, and pressing combination of keys again
- When you are satisfied with your choice, click on the 'Done' prompt to finish.
