You can relocate the
databases folder. However, changing the databases folder location is a delicate
operation and must be done by someone with good computer
admisnistration skills. If you are careless, you will lose data!
Note!
You cannot put your databases folder on iDisk or a writable DMG or any network mounted volume (NFS, AFP or SMB).- Backup your databases and copy the backups to a safe place (such as a CD, USB Storage Device)
- Launch OpenBaseManager (in Hard Drive -> Applications -> OpenBase)
- Click on 'Local' in the top left pane
- Select
and stop all running databases (running databases have a green light
next to them). This is very critical. The databases MUST be stopped
before the move is attempted.
- Once all databases are stopped, quit OpenBaseManager
- Locate your databases folder and move it the new location
- Now using a plain text editor
such as BBEdit, TextWrangler or TextEdit (in plain mode), update the
following file Hard Drive -> Library -> OpenBase -> Config
-> DatabasePath
- Replace the old location with the new
location. Make sure there are no trailing slashes or carriage return.
This must be a one line file and the path must be valid UNIX path. (i.e
if you relocate your folder to another volume, make sure /Volumes
precedes your path)*.
- Double check the location and contents of the DatabasePath file
- Restart your computer
- Once
you've verified that everything is working. Please make sure that the older databases does not exist otherwise future
installers may get confused.
Once again, we must re-iterate - this is a delicate operation please be careful!!
