Upgrading in a multi-user environment with or without offline databases

Please note that this article is applicable for upgrading Daylite 1.7.4 to 1.9 only.
If you are upgrading from Daylite 1.x to Daylite 3, please click on the following link for instructions how to do this:
Upgrading to Daylite v3.1 from Daylite v1.9, v1.8

The process of upgrading Daylite is pretty simple.
All users should quit Daylite (on the local or remote network)

On the server
  • Install the latest version of Daylite using the Installer
  • Reboot the server is possible (not mandatory)
  • Launch Daylite and connect to the main database
  • If a schema update is required, go ahead with it
  • Once you are logged in, you can consider the database and server ready

On the client(s)
  • Install the latest version of Daylite
  • Reboot the computer if possible (not mandatory)
  • Launch Daylite
  • If you have an offline database, connect to it and update the schema if required, then logout
  • Connect to the main database
  • Repeat the process for other computers on the network (you can use a tool like Apple's Remote Desktop instead of visiting each client station physically)

Once you've upgraded one client, that computer can be used as normal. You can then proceed to the next client. Please avoid having users with older versions of Daylite connect to an upgraded server. In some cases, we will provide a warning and block the login, in other cases we can not do that. If there is schema update, then you will not be able to run an older version of Daylite.

Note: If you have a large database, it can a few minutes before you can login. The databases are restarted after an install and large databases can take a while to restart - especially if you haven't done a full backup and trim logs.
