The easiest way to move a database from one computer to another is:
- Make a backup of your Daylite database on the old computer (using the backup button on the toolbar - or via the Daylite Maintenance Preferences window)
- Go to the backup folder, and copy the backup of the database with the latest date to the new computer (you can use a network, fileshare, a CD, a USB drive or something like an iPod to do the move)
- Once you've moved the backup to the new computer, install the Daylite application and then restore the backup database.
- Watch the 'Restoring a database backup' movie' to learn how to restore a database.
- And here is the link to the 'Daylite Database Utility' as shown in the movie.
After you've successfully restored the database on the new computer, please ensure that:
- The old computer does not start the old database at boot (see how to do that in the above mentioned movie, but do it on the old computer).
- You should also rename that old database on the old computer so that your users don't accidentally connect to it (the above movie shows how to rename a database).
- Make sure all your users are connected to the new server and not the old.
Make sure that you are using OpenBase Manager to change the various settings as shown in the movie.
