Why did you move the databases location as of DayLite v1.7.4?

The previous standard location for databases was Hard Drive -> Library -> OpenBase -> Databases.

This location is still valid if you upgraded from a previous version such as v1.7.3 or v1.7 etc.

The motivation behind the change was the prevent accidental data loss.

The 2 specific reasons are:
  • When you re-install the operating system, you are given an open to Archive and Install. If you select this, your databases will be put in 'Previous System' and it will inaccessible by DayLite (in some cases you may not even have a Previous System).
  • When you sent in your computer to get serviced, the service folks may just backup the Hard Drive -> Users folder and not the Hard Drive -> Library folder. When you got your computer back, you would have lost your DayLite database.

Beyond the relocated folder, we also put the databases inside a 'Package'.
The motivation behind this is also to prevent data loss. Many times users locate the Databases folder and move or replace running databases thinking they are simple files. This would cause unrecoverable data loss.

These changes shouldn't prevent your from making regular databases backup. Please backup your database(s) religously!
