How to setup DayLite 1.x for Network Access? How to access a DayLite Database over the Local Network?
Requirements
- You
need to designate one computer as the 'server'. This can be any desktop
computer running Mac OS X 10.2 or 10.3 and that computer should have a
static IP address (an IP address that does not change).
- DayLite should be installed on all computers.
- The computers must be on a common network and should be able to connect to one another using file sharing or something similar.
On the 'server' do the following:
- Launch DayLite
- Go to the Menu -> DayLite -> Preferences
- Click on 'Status' and record the IP address of this computer
- Click on 'Access Configuration'
- Click on 'Share databases on this computer to the local network'
- Wait for a few minutes while the database processes restart (you should reboot if possible)
- If you do not have any databases on this computer, create one. You can also move a database from another computer if desired.
On the client (another desktop or laptop), do the following:
- Launch DayLite
- Go to Menu -> File -> Connect to Database
- Select 'Find other databases...' from the 'Select a Connection' popup menu
- In the rounded textfield, enter the IP address of the server (the one you recorded earlier) and hit the enter key or tab out
- Select the appropriate database and click on the 'choose' button
- Replace the username and password (clear the password field if that user does not have a password)
- Select whether you want to store the password in the Keychain and whether you want this to be the default database
- Click on login
