Assumptions- You have installed Daylite on a Server (or host computer)
- You have set the database(s) on it to be shared
- You have a static IP address from your Internet provider or you've setup a functional Dynamic DNS system
- Users from remote locations have access to the internet
DayLite talks to the database using TCP/IP so connecting over the Internet follows standard TCP/IP rules.
If you using a Router/Firewall and you have NAT enabled (Network Address Translation)
- Open Ports 20220 to 20300 (see article on specific ports for more details)
- Forward those ports to your internal server where the DayLite database is located
- Now on the remote DayLite computer:
- Go to Menu -> File -> Connect to Database
- In the 'Select a Connection' popup, select 'New Connection'
- In the first field, enter the public static IP address given to you by your provider. Use the fully qualified domain name if possible (dynamic domain name or static)
- Enter the database name
- Enter the username
- Enter the password
- Click on 'Login' (remember all fields are case sensitive)
Security Consideration- Please try to limit who is able to connect to your database. In some cases, you can restrict which remote IP address is able to connect or try to use VPN (VPN can be slow, but they are more secure)
- Remember to change the Daylite Admin password
- Remember to set a password on all user accounts within Daylite
