How to setup Daylite 3 for Network Access? How to access a Daylite database over the Local Network?

Requirements:
  • You need to designate one computer as the 'Server'. (this will 'host' the Daylite database) This can be any desktop computer running Mac OS 10.4.x, and that computer should have a static IP address (an IP address that does not change).
  • Daylite must be installed on all applicable computers.
  • Daylite licenses must also be entered on all applicable computers*
  • The computers must be on a common network and should be able to connect to one another using file sharing or something similar.
*The above is not applicable to Daylite trial users. When Daylite is in 'trial mode' (within your 30 day trial limit) it will allow you to share a database with up to 50 users without a valid license.  For more information please contact our sales team at info@marketcircle.com

On the 'Server' do the following:
  • Launch Daylite
  • From the menu bar select Daylite -> Preferences... -> Administration
  • Place a check in the 'Share these databases on the network' box
(Sometimes this option does not hold this value:
If after restarting Daylite you notice that this option is unchecked again,
please follow the instructions provided by the this article.)
  • In the same window, click on the 'Status' tab
  • You should notice that the following text has been highlighted in bold:
"Configured for Local Access Only (including Offline) using 127.0.0.1 or localhost".

Click on the 'Refresh' button. The text should now change to display:

"Configured for Network Access using
computer name.local or the IP address of this machine xx.xx.xx.xx.
  • Record the IP address of this computer
  • Close the preferences window
If you do not have any databases on this computer, create one.
You can also move a database from another computer if desired.

If you have a firewall on the database host, you will need to configure it to allow access to the database:

On the client computer (which can a desktop or laptop), do the following:

  • Launch Daylite
  • From the menu bar select File -> Connect to...
  • Click on the 'Select a Connection' popup menu bar and select 'Find Other Databases...' (if this isn't visible, click on the 'Show Details' button to expand the 'Connect to..' window)
  • In the rounded textfield titled 'On Computer:', enter the IP address of the Server (the one you recorded earlier) and hit the enter key
  • Select the appropriate database and click on the 'Choose' button. This will return you to the 'Connect to..' window
  • Replace the username and password (clear the password field if that user does not have a password)
  • Select whether you want to store the password in the Keychain by placing a check in the 'Remember Password in Keychain' box
  • Click on 'Login'
