I have one Daylite license. How do I share my database using a Desktop and a Laptop?

Please note that with one license, you can't be logged into Daylite on your Desktop and your Laptop at the same time.
You must first logout of the Daylite on your Desktop, and then connect to the database with your Laptop (and vice versa)

We must first make sure that the Desktop and Laptop are connected (networked) and can share files.
That is to say that a file can be transferred from one machine to the other through the network.
If this is not possible, then the database sharing tool will not work in Daylite.
This must be done on your end as we do not have any control over your system settings.

Note!
*For the purposes of customers wanting to take Daylite 'on the go' with their Laptop, we strongly suggest that the database resides on the Desktop computer*

Now that we have established a connection between the Desktop and Laptop we can do the same in Daylite.

First ensure that both computers are running the same version of Daylite (which you can verify via the menu bar Daylite -> About Daylite).
Enter your Daylite license information on both the Desktop and Laptop.
Login to your database on the Desktop.

Note!
*If you created the database on the Laptop, please read this knowledgebase article which can assist you with moving the database over to the Desktop*

From the Daylite menu bar, select the following:
Daylite -> Preferences -> Administration
Set your access configuration to shared mode by placing a check in the 'Share these databases on the network'

Note!
*In some very rare cases, if you find that this setting isn't sticking , please do the following:
Close the Daylite application on the Server.
Open the OpenBase Manager application. (Applications -> OpenBase -> OpenBaseManager)
From the menu bar select OpenBaseManager -> Local Preferences -> Local Host Settings....
There should a prompt titled 'Network Access Allowed'. Place a check in the box.
Close the window, save the changes and close the OpenBase Manager application*

Next you need to find out the IP address of the Desktop machine.
To do this, from the Daylite menu bar select:
Daylite -> Preferences -> Administration /Status

The bolded text in the status window should display "Configured for Network Access using computer name.local or the IP address of this machine xx.xx.xx.xx".
Record the IP address of this computer and then close the preferences window.
Close the Daylite application on the Desktop, and open the application on the Laptop.
In the 'Connect to database' window, click on the 'Select a Connection' bar and select 'Find Other Databases'.

Note!
*If the 'Connect to database' window does not appear when launching Daylite, it can be accessed by selecting the following from the menu bar File -> Connect to...
Also, if the 'Select a Connection' bar is not visible, simply click on the 'Show Details' button to expand the window*

Type in the IP address of the Desktop in the 'On Computer' field. Press the [return] key to commence the search.
The name of the database hosted on the Desktop should appear. Click on the database name once, and then select 'Choose'.
This will take you back to the 'Connect to Database' window.
Simply type in your username/password and login.

Assuming the above has worked and you can connect to your Daylite database from your Laptop, you are going to want to get an Offline copy of the database to take with you when you travel.
To do this, you need to be connected to the online Daylite database through your Laptop.
From the Daylite menu bar, select the following:
File -> Database -> Go Offline
The first time you do this it may take a while since all the information is essentially being copied over into your Laptop.
Each subsequent sync will only take moments.

You are now ready to travel with your Laptop and work on your Offline Daylite database.
When you return to your home/office you can sync up with your Desktop to update all the information that has been changed or modified.

To do this, select the following from the Daylite menu bar on the Laptop:
File -> Database -> Go Online (this will synchronize the information from the Laptop/Desktop and keep the Laptop in an Online status)
OR
File -> Database -> Sync with Online Database (this will synchronize the information from the Laptop/Desktop and keep the Laptop in an Offline status
