Upgrading to Daylite v3.1 from Daylite v1.9, v1.8

How to upgrade to Daylite 3 from v1.9, v1.8:

For existing Daylite users, Daylite 3 uses a different database format and thus needs to upgrade Daylite 1.x databases to be compatible with the new format.
This cannot be undone, nor will a Daylite 3 database work with previous Daylite 1.x versions.

Please Note:
If you simply wish to trial Daylite 3 with your current 1.x database, please read the knowledgebase article titled "How to use both Daylite 1.x and (trial) Daylite 3 at the same time".

1) Launch Daylite 3, located at /Applications/Daylite 3/Daylite
The first time you launch Daylite, you will be presented with the following dialog:

Select the "Connect to an existing database" option and select "Continue".

2) Connect to the existing 1.x database
The next panel that appears is the "Connect to Database" panel:

Click on "Show Details" to expand this window which will display the "Computer:" and "Database:" fields:

Make sure that you change the "Database or Port:" option to be the name of your existing 1.x database.
Change the "Username:" and "Password:" options to match the username and password of the user that you used with your 1.x database.

3) Upgrading the 1.x database schema
The following panel prompts you to upgrade your database:

Press the "Update Now" button.
A back up of your 1.x database will be made (a Finder window will pop open displaying where the backup is located - close this window to proceed). Your 1.x database will be upgraded to the Daylite 3 database format. Depending on the size of your 1.x database, this could take awhile (upwards to an hour!). Please be patient and allow it to continue. This only has to be done once.

4) Use Daylite!
Once the upgrade has completed you are ready to start using Daylite 3.

IMPORTANT - Users with Offline databases:

- Synchronize all Offline databases to their Online master prior to the upgrade
- Delete all Offline databases using OpenBase Manager. The following knowledgebase article can assist you with this: How do I delete a database?
- Upgrade all computers to Daylite 3 (starting with the server if applicable)
- Users should refrain from using Daylite during the upgrade process
- On the Server (or computer that hosts the Online database), launch Daylite 3 and connect to your main (master, Online) database. Daylite will prompt whether you want to update the database. Choose to do so. A backup will be created before the schema changes are applied. The backup may take some time depending on the size of the database
- You must recreate all offline databases! One-by-one, log into the Online database. From the Daylite menu bar select File -> Database Go Offline. You should recieve the following prompt:

Press the "Yes" button to proceed.

-When the Offline database has been created, the following prompt will appear:

Press the "OK" button to complete the process.

Multi-User Environments:

- All users must quit Daylite
- Install Daylite 3 on all computers (starting with the computer/server that hosts the master Online database)
- Launch Daylite 3 and connect to the main database
- You'll be prompted on whether to update the database or not, choose to do so
- A backup will be created - this may take some time depending on the size of the database
- When the backup is completed and the schema changes have been applied, all users can reconnect

Additional Note for Multi-User Environments with Permissions mechanism enabled:

The Permissions mechanism system in Daylite 3 has been redesigned to offer more flexibility.
Please read the following knowledgebase article which covers what to expect when upgrading to Daylite 3:

Palm Users:

Once you've installed Daylite 3, you will need to install the latest version of DayLite Palm Conduits (v?).
The only change here is to account for the new schema version.
You can download the Daylite 3 Palm conduit from our downloads page:
Daylite Palm Conduit

Daylite Mail Integration (DMI) Users:

Once you've installed Daylite 3, you will need to install DMI v2
This is to account for the new schema version.
You can download DMI v2 from our downloads page:
DMIv2
