Apple has released a new version of MobileMe Calendar. If you use Daylite and you synchronize your calendar with iCal, do not upgrade to the new MobileMe Calendar!

What's going on

In the process of moving to the new calendar, Apple migrates your existing calendar and deletes the old calendar. In the process of deleting the old calendar, sync services propagates the delete to all sync services clients. Daylite obeys these delete commands (as it should) and moves your calendar data to the trash (lucky we have a trash).

We've communicated with Apple during the MobileMe Calendar beta and we are looking into possible solutions.

What can you do

The easiest option is to not upgrade to the new MobileMe Calendar and stay with the old one until a reasonable solution is found (which may take a while).

If you must use the new MobileMe Calendar, then you should stop calendar synchronization in Daylite (Preferences > Synchronization) *before* you upgrade to the new MobileMe Calendar.

If you have already accidentally upgraded, you can turn off sync (Preferences > Synchronization). Click on the Calendars tab and uncheck the 'Synchronize tasks and appointments' box and then go to the Daylite Trash and restore your calendar data. Do not turn on sync again. Leave it off.

The writing is on the wall

With this move, it is obvious that Apple is moving towards more robust synchronization options. This is a good thing in the long run, though it may take us a while to get up to speed.

Consider Daylite Touch

If you need your calendar, tasks and reminders on your iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, we strongly encourage you to use Daylite Touch. While the feature set is a bit different, at $50 per year, it is cheaper than the $99 per year that Apple charges. You'll get your appointments, events, tasks, reminders, contacts, projects and opportunities right on your phone.
