I receive the message "Error starting Personal Database Environment" when starting Daylite


When launching Daylite, it produces the following error message: "Error starting Personal Database Environment." Or, "Error starting Postgres."

Why is this problem occurring

There could be a potential problem when starting all of Daylite's background processes which are required to run the application.


Please perform the following steps on the computer that is affected:

  1. Quit Daylite and Apple Mail
  2. At the restart out pop up confirmation window uncheck the option for Reopen windows when logging back in
  3. Restart the computer.
  4. Once restarted open Daylite and Apple Mail

If the steps above haven't helped and the error prompt continues to appear when launching Daylite, please try these additional troubleshooting steps:

  1. Attempt to log into the sample database by clicking the back arrow in the top left corner of the Daylite log in screen.
  2. If this is successful, select Daylite -> Preferences -> General from the application menu bar.
  3. Uncheck the "Sync in the background" box.
  4. Quit Daylite.
  5. Restart the computer.
  6. Launch Daylite and log into your database.

If the error prompt continues to persist when launching the application, try reinstalling Daylite. You can download the latest build here.

If these steps have not resolved the issue please submit a support ticket within Daylite by going to Help > Contact Support making sure to include diagnostic information.
