What are the “Advanced” options in the Database panel of Daylite Server?

Daylite Server Admin is a tool that must be installed and configured on the server computer. Using this tool, you can set up and share Daylite databases in a multi-user environment.

This article will focus on the key features of the 'Advanced' drop-down menu located in the "Database" panel of Daylite Server.

Note: Before making any changes on Daylite Server Admin, click the lock button and authenticate with your Mac OS X administrator credentials.



Rename

Important: Renaming the database will delete all offline references on the Mac, iPhone and iPad. Ensure that all Daylite for Mac & iOS users have synchronized their data prior to performing the steps below.


  1. Log out of the database (File > Log Out).
  2. Switch Daylite Server "OFF".
  3. Ensure that the database you would like to rename is selected (applicable only if you're hosting multiple databases).
  4. Click Advanced > Rename...
  5. A prompt will appear to confirm your choice of renaming the database. Click 'Rename' to proceed.
  6. Enter the new database name. Click 'OK' to confirm.
  7. Switch Daylite Server "ON".
  8. Log in to Daylite on the Mac. Ensure that you select the updated database name to connect with.

Set as Primary

If you have multiple databases, you must set one among them as the primary database. This database will be used for CalDAV, CardDAV, and for connecting to Daylite on your iOS devices.

Important: Setting a new primary database will require all Daylite on the iPhone and iPad user to wipe and download the database. Ensure that all Daylite on the iPhone and iPad users have synchronized their data prior to performing the steps below.


To set a primary database:

  1. Switch Daylite Server "OFF".
  2. Select your primary database from the database drop down menu.
  3. Click 'Advanced'.
  4. Click 'Set as Primary'. A prompt will appear to confirm your action of changing the primary database. Click 'Change' to proceed.
  5. The primary database name will now be displayed.
  6. Switch Daylite Server "ON".
  7. In the Home screen of Daylite on the iOS, swipe the screen downwards and hold it in that position. This will trigger a prompt to wipe and download the database.

Delete

Warning: Deleting a database will permanently remove it from your computer. Please take due care when using this option.


To delete a database:

  1. Switch Daylite Server "OFF".
  2. Select the database you would like to delete from the database drop down menu.
  3. Click 'Advanced'.
  4. Click 'Delete'. A prompt will appear to confirm your action of deleting the selected database. Click 'Delete' to proceed.

Change a Password

You can select a database and modify passwords for users in that database. This is useful, for example, in cases where the Daylite administrator has forgotten their password and want to reset it. You may also use this feature to reset the password of a Daylite user if it has changed, or, for other reasons.

To change a Daylite user password:

  1. Click 'Advanced'.
  2. Click 'Change a Password...'
  3. In the sheet that opens, do the following:

  4. Select a user

  5. Enter the new password
  6. Confirm the password by re-entering it
  7. Click 'Change Password'.

Replace with Backup

Databases can be replaced with their backups while Daylite Server is turned Off. For example, this may be useful when an import of data has gone wrong. You can replace the database with a recently created backup.

To replace a database backup:

  1. Turn Daylite Server "OFF".
  2. Click 'Advanced'.
  3. Click 'Replace with Backup...' A prompt will appear to confirm that you like to replace your database with a backup. It'll also advise you that Daylite for Mac and iOS will both need to re-download their local storages next time they log in. Click 'Replace' to proceed.
  4. Choose the backup file and click Select.
  5. When the database has been restored, turn Daylite Server "ON".
